So who are the contributors to project Freedive Worldwide?
In Alphabetical order….
Mike Board (Freedive Gili)
Mike has a strong background in teaching and instruction as a PADI Scuba Diving instructor, a TDI Technical Diving Instructor and as a former Royal Marine Commando. As a Freediving Instructor he is an SSI Instructor Trainer and an Apnea Total Master Instructor. He has a strong physical approach to his own training, however through Freediving he has discovered that equally important is the balance achieved through activities such as yoga and gaining greater self awareness and mental focus. Both approaches feature strongly in his teaching style.
As an instructor he believes that you should be able to do what you teach and so regularly strives to discover his own limits and extend them, through competing in Freediving and the training that goes with it. As a member of the 2011 British Freediving Team (www.britishfreediving.org) he has dived to 91m and has set four British National records, currently holding the Free Immersion record at 83m. Through competing in international competitions, discussing techniques with other athletes, and being coached by great Freedivers such as multiple World Record holder Sara Campbell, he aims to ensure that his teaching is always up to date and using the best methodology.
Ian Donald (Freedive UK)
Ian Donald (AIDA master instructor and founder of Freedive UK and Freedive Worldwide) has been freediving for over 10 years. He started whilst on holiday in the Caribbean, diving with local spearfishermen and learning how they collected the big crayfish which were being cooked up on the beach every night. This love of breath hold diving continued and developed eventually making his Scuba diving hobby pretty much redundant, despite having qualified as a rescue diver.
He is the personal breath hold trainer for several of the UKs top surfers including Tom Butler.
Ian has been involved as a freediving expert in TV and film projects about/related to freediving, and his experience is often called upon for a wide range of projects around the world. He has also been involved with developing an Apnea program for the Royal Marines.
Whether you are just looking to get in to freediving for the first time, an intermediate diver looking to get to grips with the infamous mouthfill technique or an advanced diver wanting to find new training grounds then Ian has the freediving and teaching ability to help.

Kate Middleton (Freedive Gili)
Originally from Vancouver Island, Canada, Kate grew up in nature surrounded by the Ocean. Her love for the outdoors naturally evolved to the underwater world and led to her becoming a Scuba Diving Instructor. But, as a dedicated yogi, Kate naturally tended towards exploring the ocean and her Self as organically as possible, which meant trading in a Scuba tank for long fins! Kate practiced yoga for 10 years before trying her first breath-hold and immediately fell in love with the symbiotic relationship offered with yoga and freediving. Kate’s teaching style is an energetic, creative and full-spectrum approach to embodying your fluid nature. Whether on the yoga mat or underwater, Kate encourages you to use the breath as a navigating source of conscious living, reconnecting to the system and source as a whole.
Kate sees competition is the perfect vehicle to exploring your potential and came first overall in the recent South East Asia Breathless competition. Kate has been teaching yoga for 5 years and freediving since 2009. Along with teaching SSI and AIDA freediving courses, Kate runs Freediving and Yoga retreats at Freedive Gili.
